Hi! I'm Mimi

Teaching is a core part of my personal identity and I’m passionate about the learning process and witnessing students’ transformative “Ah-ha!” moments. I have dedicated my career to working with adolescents, guiding them through their educational journeys.

  • Began my teaching career in 1995 in New York City: taught literature, writing, and psychology at Monroe College, then English and history at the Beacon School

  • Participated in the National Writing Project; then transitioned to New Orleans Access Television to produce educational programming, write grants, consult on film training, and design media curriculum

  • Returned to Monroe College as Director of the Writing Center, leading Writing Across the Curriculum, serving on the Honors Executive Board, and teaching Honors courses

  • Moved to Texas in 2015; helped open Fusion Academy Southlake, a progressive private school with a 1:1 student-teacher ratio

  • My pedagogical approach centers on inquiry-based learning and fostering authentic student connections through high-level questioning

  • A lifelong learner, I am committed to personal development. I'm fluent in Spanish, conversational in French and Italian; avid traveler (visited 15 countries and 40 US states)

  • An enthusiast of MCU, Star Wars, Star Trek, and other sci-fi fandoms, I enjoy ziplining, anything creative, entertaining at home, and singing karaoke

  • Educational background: BA in English Literature (University of Massachusetts), MA in Teaching English (Boston University), Certificate in Campus Design (Harvard University)
